Spreading the love of pottery since 2005

If you’re attending a pottery class in Brighton… ask your teacher:
“Were you one of Roberto’s students?”
Chances are, the answer will be yes.

This year, Pottery Gagliano is celebrating 20 years of sharing our passion for pottery in Brighton!

Founded in 2005 by Roberto and Marcella in Brighton, Pottery Gagliano is a true creative haven. With over 30 years of experience each, they have been working with clay since their teenage years, bringing their love for clay to life.
Over the years, our teaching studio has built a thriving community of artists and potters, spreading the love of clay across Brighton. We’ve welcomed more than 4,000 students into our space and we’re proud to share that Pottery Gagliano is now a pottery school.

Pottery Gagliano School reflects our deep commitment to nurturing creativity, developing skills, and empowering every student to reach their full potential. Our courses will provide a certificate of achievement, recognising the confidence, knowledge, and skills you’ve gained. Each certificate represents growth, mastery, and the successful completion of structured learning pathways that balance technical training with artistic exploration.

Pottery Gagliano is proud to say that two of our students have participated in The Great Pottery Throw Down!

I attended a wonderful raku workshop at Pottery Gagliano taught by Denis di Luca. We learned a lot and took home some lovely pots. Denis is a generous teacher and Roberto and Marcella are welcoming hosts. Thanks to all.

Such a fabulous naked raku workshop at Pottery Gagliano. Lovely, supportive teaching from truly talented artists and artisans. This was my first... but like all good things, I'll be back for more!

Such a welcoming and inclusive pottery studio whatever your level. Roberto is an amazing teacher who is passionate about teaching and ensuring everyone gets the most out of his classes. His expertise and wealth of knowledge is amazing and he truly cares about his students enjoying his classes and helping them to improve. We have all learned so much from him. I have been visiting Pottery Gagliano for a year now, and I can say from the bottom of my heart that it has been a truly a life-changing experience. The studio doesn’t just deliver calm, kind and unrivalled expertise from tutors and studio techs, and the sense of calm and creative fulfilment this hobby has brought to so many like myself who enrol on the courses and visit the open studio, but it also gifts a wonderful vibrant community for all who attend – a welcoming safe space from the fast-paced lives so many of us lead. I have just enrolled on my fourth wheel course with Roberto, and have enjoyed many of the masterclasses the studio offers: saggar firing, raku firing, human sculpture, animal sculpture, with the Alberto Bustos masterless coming up too. Whether you’re a beginner or want a place to advance your skills, Pottery Gagliano is the studio for you.

I was lucky enough to be taken here for a two hour pottery session, where you get to "throw" a pot on the potters wheel.
As the last time I had used clay was at junior school I was convinced that I would not be able to do it at all, but Roberto's excellent tuition and the sheer joy of the feel of the clay made for a brilliant afternoon.
At the end you get to choose a glaze colouring and your pots are fired, glazed and ready to pick up a week or so later.
I'm absolutely thrilled with mine, they actually look great and I thoroughly recommend giving it a go.

Pottery Galiano: A Fantastic Place to Learn and Grow!
I recently completed an 8-week pottery course at Pottery Galiano in Brighton, and I can't recommend it highly enough! From the moment I walked in, Roberto and Marcella made me feel incredibly welcome. They are genuinely lovely people who create a warm and supportive atmosphere.
Roberto is a brilliant instructor. He patiently showed me the basics to get started, and within the 8 weeks, I felt truly confident in my throwing skills. It was impressive to see how he effortlessly moved around the studio, providing individual guidance and support to everyone, regardless of their experience level. Whether someone was just starting out or working on more advanced techniques, Roberto was there to help them progress.
Even though I've gained so much confidence, I know there's still a lot more to learn, so I will book another 8-week course. Pottery Galiano offers great value for money, and the studio itself is a lovely, inspiring space to get creative. If you're looking to learn pottery in Brighton, this is definitely the place to go!

Great facilities and friendly professional people. Very good value for the slightly higher prices. They offer free clay and they take care of drying/wrapping pots you, it ends up being more cost effective in the long run.

I attended a taster afternoon a few weeks ago. It was an amazing experience. Roberto and Marcella are friendly and very talented. I had no experience at all but Roberto patiently guided me and at the end I proudly created my first pot. I highly recommend them. Thanks Roberto and Marcella
